Triple-A Baseball began in Tucson in 1969 as the Tucson Toros, who at the time were the only affiliated baseball team to use a Spanish-language moniker as its primary brand.
As an affiliate of the Houston Astros in the 1980s - when the Astros famously wore its "tequila sunrise" uniforms - the Toros adopted a similar creative look on-field wearing an assortment of Southwest-themed colors: orange pants with yellow and red stripes, and a jersey featuring yellow raglan sleeves, yellow, red, avocado, orange and lime green front, and a turquoise back.
The Sidewinders debuted in 1998 during Tucson's first season as an affiliate with the new Arizona Diamondbacks, earning the nickname "Baby 'Backs." Continuing Tucson's colorful history, the Sidewinders sported a Southwest-inspired color scheme of turquoise, copper, gold and black.
After the 2008 season, the Sidewinders closed shop in Tucson and relocated to Reno, where the Aces continue to play today.
